In-Person Counselling Protocols
Counsellors who offer in person sessions will need to book a room for their session in advance of confirming the meeting with their client. (In other words, please avoid offering a meeting unless you know there is a space to meet.)
Ask your client to wait in the downstairs waiting room and tell them you will meet them there.
When you arrive at the Centre, please check the booking system before going to your room. Sometimes we have to make last minute changes.
If it is the first time you are meeting your client, do not use your client’s name if there are other people in the waiting area. Instead, ask, “Is someone here to meet with (counsellor’s name)?” And then say, “That’s me, please follow me.” And walk them to your counselling office.
When your session is complete, please walk your client to the waiting area, or door, especially if this is their first time, or if you have an evening appointment. Sometimes a client gets turned around and disoriented, or our door is left open accidentally.
Be sure to leave the furniture in a ready-to-use-state.
Turn off all lights and air purifiers/fans and close any open windows, unless you are absolutely sure that your room will be used right away.
Please check in with staff or consult the most recent Centre newsletter for up-to-date information on any changes.
